I'm 55 and Just Started Using AI
My Skeptical Beginning
I'll be honest—I thought AI was just another tech fad that young people were excited about. I'd been doing fine without it for 55 years, so why start now? Then my daughter showed me how she uses ChatGPT to plan family dinners, and something clicked.
The First Week
I started small. I asked ChatGPT to help me write a difficult email to a contractor who'd done shoddy work. In 30 seconds, I had a professional, firm but polite message that said exactly what I meant. I was hooked.
What I Use AI For Now
Every morning, I ask Claude to summarize news articles so I can stay informed without doom-scrolling. I use it to plan weekly meals based on what's in my fridge. I even used it to help write my retirement speech last month—it captured my voice perfectly after a few tries.
You're Not Too Old
If you can send an email, you can use AI. If you can Google something, you can use AI. It's actually easier than most smartphone apps because you just talk to it like a person. Age has nothing to do with it—curiosity does.
